Product Features

The re-design of the Apple iPod Shuffle is radical. It is half the size of the 2nd Gen Shuffle MP3 Player and slightly longer but a much narrower (1.8" x 0.3") version making it even easier to transport and clip on to your clothing. Its only available in black and silver this time round rather than the garish but bright colours of the 2nd Gen. All of the controls have been shifted from the body itself to the headphones making it easier to operate with the controls being in easy reach. It is made from aluminium except for the clip which is made from stainless steel like the back of the iPod Touch and iPhone which is a magnet for fingerprints and scratches.

Apple iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen

Features

The Apple iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen has much more to offer in the way of simplicity and convenience as well as performance. There is now 4GB of memory on board to store up to 1000 tracks, and VoiceOver. This features is the worlds first on an MP3 Player and will announce which song you're listening to and the artist. The VoiceOver also tells you the name of your playlist and when your battery is low. Multiple playlists can now be stored too and sync them to suit your activity or mood. All of the usual Shuffle features are there too so its all familiar with some unique added extras.

Performance

With the new button-less design, restrictions occur with the earphones that maybe used and the Apple supplied ones with controls are really the limit. However, good performers as they are and comfortable to use, there really shouldn't be a problem. The size is great, especially for activities such as running as it will not get in the way or slow you down, but has more possibility of being mislaid. We will provide you with a full performance review once we have taken it around the block a few times!

Apple has also added an interesting feature to these new Shuffles, that make the iPods speak to you, which is bound to please John Gruber. Dubbed as “VoiceOver”, the feature speaks out your song titles, artists and playlist names. Using the VoiceOver feature, the new Shuffle allows you to pick a choose between different playlists. This feature, it seems, is not entirely new, and already exists in the iPod Nanos.

The new iPods are set to ship in 3-5 business days for $79, although the previous generation iPod Shuffles continue to be on sale.

The World's Smallest Music Player

To create the world's smallest music player, we moved the controls from iPod shuffle to the earphone cord. This makes iPod shuffle smaller than ever, and the controls are right where you can reach them. So when you want to play, pause, or skip to the next tune, you don't have to fumble for your iPod shuffle--just follow the cord and press a button.

The First Music Player that Talks to You

VoiceOver will surely be the next big hit on your iPod shuffle. Say you're listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. Just press a button, and VoiceOver tells you. You can even hear the names of your playlists. And when your battery needs charging, VoiceOver tells you that, too.

Easy-Access Controls

The controls are located on the right earphone cord. With command central strategically placed in this more convenient location, you can navigate your music--and activate the VoiceOver feature--without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing. iPod shuffle includes these easy-access controls, but you can also use headphones with similar controls from manufacturers like Scosche, Klipsch, V-MODA, and Belkin.

Your Music Library ... to Go

iPod shuffle is now available in both 2 GB and 4 GB capacities. So you have plenty of room to store hours and hours of music--up to 1,000 songs with the 4 GB model.2 That's a load of essentials for your workout or commute. And there's room for multiple playlists and audiobooks, too.
